Water Scarcity: A Threat to the World’s Water Supply

Water scarcity is one of the most pressing issues facing humanity today. Millions of people around the globe lack access to clean drinking water and what little water is available is often contaminated, making it unsafe for consumption and posing a threat to global health.

Access to Clean Drinking Water

Millions of people around the world don’t have access to clean drinking water.  According to the World Health Organization, more than 2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, leading to approximately 485,000 deaths per year. This is a shocking number that highlights the severity of the water crisis facing our world today.

Water poverty is where there is either a lack of access to water sources or where the available water sources are contaminated. Unfortunately, many of the people affected by water poverty live in developing countries where infrastructure and resources for water sterilisation are limited.

Fortunately, there are solutions to this problem. Water purification tablets are one such solution, and they are affordable, effective, and easy to use. By using water purification tablets, people can make even contaminated water safe to drink. These tablets are designed to kill bacteria and viruses in the water, ensuring that it is safe for consumption.

Fresh Water

Fresh drinking water is a fundamental necessity that is not always accessible to everyone around the world. Unfortunately, one of the reasons for this is a lack of fresh water. Only 3% of the earth’s water is fresh water and the majority of this water is locked up in icebergs and glaciers. This makes it incredibly challenging to access.

As climate change continues to wreak havoc on our ecosystems, freshwater supplies will continue to be threatened. Access to clean drinking water must be viewed as a basic human right, and it is up to all of us to help preserve it.

There is so much we can all be doing at home to save water such as taking shorter showers, checking for leaks, avoid buying products containing mostly water (where concentrated refillable options are available), turning off taps when not using them and so many more.

By supporting sustainable water initiatives, and by using water purification tablets correctly, we can work towards ensuring that every individual has access to safe, clean drinking water.

Water Contamination

One of the major threats to the world’s water supply is contamination. Water contamination occurs when pollutants enter water sources, making them unfit for human consumption. Unfortunately, an alarming amount of water on our planet is too contaminated to drink or use safely.

Contaminants can come from a variety of sources, including industrial waste, agricultural runoff, and untreated sewage. These pollutants can lead to the presence of harmful chemicals and bacteria in water sources, making them dangerous for human consumption.

Additionally, natural events like floods and hurricanes can cause contaminants to enter water sources, making it difficult to ensure the safety of drinking water during these events.  When natural disaster strikes, water purification tablets are needed on an urgent and immediate basis.

The problem of water contamination is further compounded by the fact that many regions lack the resources and infrastructure needed to effectively purify their water supply. In some cases, even basic sterilisation methods are not available. As a result, millions of people worldwide suffer from illnesses and deaths caused by consuming contaminated water.

Humanitarian Aid

In response to this global crisis, it’s essential that we take steps to address water contamination and ensure that everyone has access to clean, safe drinking water. Water purification tablets are one solution that can help people access clean drinking water in regions where other solutions are not available.

Hydrachem deliver millions of water purification tablets each year to war-torn countries and natural disaster zones as part of our humanitarian aid effort.  We work with world-leading NGO’s and governments to deliver tablets at the point of need, without any need for expensive or slow infrastructure builds.
